ALAS POOR PEG
.
They called me Peggy, the people at
Paws Dog Shelter.
I have no pain now, I think I have left the place humans call Earth, it was Hell for me there. I was a white and ginger hunting dog with long floppy ears and soft brown eyes. One day I heard a BANG close to me. I felt a terrible pain in my leg and tried to run but it was impossible, one of my front legs had gone. I think I went to sleep for a long time, when I awoke I was alone. I tried to walk but it was very difficult and, oh, the pain on the small stump of leg I had left. I stumbled around for days trying to find some food or water, hoping the pain would go away. I came across an empty house and flopped out on the veranda.
Then someone in a passing car spotted me. They had two dogs in the car. They came and looked at me and their faces had a very worried look. They gave me some water and then drove off. I fell asleep again and suddenly they were back without their dogs. They picked me up and took me on a  long car journey to Paws Dog Shelter near Paphos. I was given food and water and for the first time in my life a bed to lay in. It felt so good. A man stroked me and said they were going to do their best for me. His voice was kind and his hands gentle. It seemed that life was going to be worth living again. I saw three puppies playing. I managed to get up and hop over to see them. The humans came and stroked me when I licked the puppies.
Next day, the man they called a Doctor tried to help me, but I think they found me too late. My last memories are of  kind humans - I wish all of my memories were. Thank you Paws and Dr Lakis for trying your best.
