OSCAR'S STORY
It was dark when someone put me down outside Paws Dog Shelter. I couldn't remember when I last had anything to eat or drink but I no longer felt the pain. Even the fleas and insects that swarmed all over me had ceased to bother me. I didn't have the strength to scratch at them anyway. Nothing mattered any more because I knew I was dying. I put my nose between my paws. Please let there be no tomorrow. But there was. I must have looked a sorry sight when the people arrived that morning. There were exclamations of dismay and concern as they peered down at me. 'Is it still alive?'
"Just about. God, what a mess! I think it's some kind of spaniel'
"His gums are pure white, he'll need vitamin and iron injections right away.'
"After that they put me in the shower. I was too weak to stand up and they had to support me while they sprayed off the insects and filth that caked my fur. It was a strange feeling but I quite liked it.
"He's just a skeleton,"one of them said. ''Ribs are nearly coming through his skin! But what a lovely colour - white with golden brown patches."
Someone stuck needles into me and fed me with baby food which tasted strange. I managed to swallow some of it but with a great effort. At intervals throughout the day they gave me a little more of the food. They looked sad and shook their heads as they left but I had never felt so comfortable in my life! Perhaps there would be a tomorrow. And there was.

Early that morning those lovely people came straight to my pen and I struggled to my feet, wagging my tail to greet them and say thank you. I was so wobbly that I fell over with the effort. First they laughed then they burst into tears and hugged each other.  A  lady brought in some special food which she'd cooked for me.  She mashed it up and fed small amounts to me through the day. It was so good that my mouth waters when I think of it.
Well, I recovered and before long I was romping about in the yard with the other dogs. I owe my life to all the tender loving care I received. I'm so happy to be here and some kind person has sponsored me.
